MiniSoh's Birth Story
Hello !
Pretty sure a lot of you want to know how did the process of birthing him went heh . One of the best thing other than the little bundle of joy you see , is getting to know the birth story ! At least that's how I feel when I follow mummies on IG .
Nuff' said ! Here we go .
Initially , I really wanted him to be out before 20th March because I wanted a Pisces baby rather than a Aries one , as baby's daddy and I are the remaining 2 fire signs . So imagine how bad shit is gonna turn out if we all blow up amirite . However , clearly he felt like it wasn't time yet . So I accepted the fact and let him decide what was best for him ; but me being me , I still told him to not come on the weekends as I wanted to spend one last weekend before being a mum and of course , time with the husband (ended up sleeping all weekend and he was on his game all the time so hahaha that's our quality time) .
So , for 21/3 and 22/3 , my body clock was screwed right over . I literally slept at 11am/12pm to 8-10pm . So yeah .
Side track : I felt nothing on Friday (20/3) and really mild pressure at my pelvic bone over Saturday (21/3) .
So , on Sunday (22/3) , I woke up at 7pm and my husband went to get dinner and bread for breakfast the next day . I started feeling stronger pressure during dinner time and I knew he was coming soon already (I tried to induce labour so I had spicy food for breakfast and dinner , it's not scientifically proven that it works okay , could be a coincidence too) . The pressure gradually but really slowly got stronger . It wasn't pain and definitely wasn't Braxton Hicks . It only started cramping at 10ish-pm . I went to the toilet because I honestly couldn't tell between a regular tummy ache and cramps apart so I did my number 2 along anyways . However , I notice my discharge looking different already (thicker and clotted) .
I fell asleep at 12ish-am despite the cramping and woke up at 3am (23 March already) because of the cramps . Nothing unbearable honestly . I drifted in and out of sleep till 5am and couldn't take it anymore because I had to pee and all I could think of were the cake my husband bought for me the night before .
So yes , I got up to pee and have my breakfast (cake and hot chocolate , yummers) .
During my pee sess , I cleaned twice and saw a lot of mucus discharge (aka mucous plug) with a streak of blood . (TMI , gross , whatever . There is nothing fancy about giving birth) .
I came out and then let my mother know and she said to head to the hospital soon as baby was definitely coming today . I went to let my husband know immediately that he might need to cancel work but at the same time , I was worried that the labour will take awhile as I wanted him to be born at 10pm (superstition but whatever . I don't really care about anyone's opinion anymore except my hubs and mum) and his paternity leave wouldn't be approved for today but a different leave instead , BUT . Boi has enough leaves so he was there ❤
Our end plan was to train to NUH and have an early lunch before admitting as I know it would take awhile for cervix to dilate (usually . In my circumstances , I did have a higher chance of slower dilation from past experience) . So instead of waiting at the hospital , I rather take my time there . Also, my mother said that they wouldn't allow me to eat once I got admitted, I presume is so that I don't shit during delivery.
I also really needed to transfer remaining credits from my expired ezlink to my new one because I slept over the weekends and I'm not allowed out during confinement ; but the ticket office only opened at 10am .
I waited for my husband to bathe because we were really thinking that there was a chance , it would take Raiden to arrive later than expected and I went to bathe at about 6.30am .
Did my usual cream and oil routine for stretch marks and dried my hair . Amidst all that , the contractions were getting pretty bad to the extend I had to stop drying my hair and take deep breaths (I had the tendency to hold my breath when the pain kicks in, I don't know why so I try to constantly remind myself to breathe. The hubs and mum helped remind me a lot every time the pain kicked in) .
While waiting for the clock to hit 9.45am , I laid down for about an hour in hope to ease the pain but the contractions only got worse (was observing my belly here during the contraction and it was really hard and look square than round) . 9.15ish I told my mum the pain was getting worse and initially wanted to grab over instead but my stubborn ass still ended up walking to the station because I could tolerate the pain alot better walking than sitting . So I just walked around from my room to the kitchen and back till about 9.35am.
The walking of course played a huge part in speeding up the dilation and delivery a lot , so by the time I got to the station , after the transfer of ezlink credits (we called the hospital here and they told us to head to the A&E once we were there) , I assumed I was about 4cm dilated and it really started hurting .
By the time I reached Kent Ridge , it was getting a little hard to breathe . So my mother got me a wheelchair .
My husband wheeled me to the A&E as instructed by the nurses . It gradually got worse (obviously) but the bumpy road made it even worse .
Once we were in the A&E at about 10.30ish-am , things happened rather quickly , within 10 mins , my husband and I were bought to the delivery suite and I was strapped to the CTG machine (? I think that's what's called) to monitor Raiden's heartbeat and the contractions then left alone . My mother couldn't be in the delivery suite with me because they said only the husband is allowed and I felt really sad but that's one of the cons of choosing a government hospital :(
About 11.15am , doctors came in and everything here became pretty much of a blur because I was in so much discomfort . The doctors confirmed that I was in a labour and asked if I wanted the water bag burst so the delivery can be sped up . I was literally mentally begging them to because I wanted to get the delivery over and done with ( I felt like they were talking at a really SLOW speed and was terrified that the labour would drag for hours) . The next thing I knew , literally the very next moment , in the midst of my shriek and contraction , I felt a pop and followed by a warm gush of water on my left leg . So I went ," I think the water bag broke ." Yeah I know , obviously it broke hahaha . The doctors told me it's okay because I sounded anxious and they proceeded to start converting the bed , installing stands for my legs to be propped up on . I remember having a nurse on my left , my husband and another nurse on my right and 2 doctors in front of me . The contractions were very frequent by now and I was told to start pushing . The nurse next to my hubs , told me to hold my thighs and bring my head up so I'm curled like a ball and push for 10 counts . ( My husband helped me bring my head up because I was so tired and anxious , I literally couldn't process what she said . ) I swear to god , those sets of 10 seconds were the longest in my life . I was mentally begging her to count faster . The first 2 set , I didn't manage to push all the way , I stopped at like 3 and tried again because my stamina has been weaker than ever since I gotnpregnant . I was also so tired from the contractions and I wasn't breathing each time I push but the nurse told me to try and hold till 10 . So I tried . 3rd set and I saw the doctor pick up a pair of scissors and I internally freaked . I immediately told them I don't want to cut because I was really scared of the pain . However, the doctor beside the one who was gonna cut me , patiently explained to me that it's my first delivery so they kind of have to because my vagina is tight and it was restricting the boy from coming out . After hearing that I was restricting my son , I immediately agreed . I didn't even feel her cut me but within the next set of 10 seconds push , my son was out . It was about 11.30am , that was how quick everything happened .
Like what every mummy would say , after the head comes out , everything happen really quickly and I could finally breathe . I was given a jab on my left thigh , right after the boy came out . So quick I didn't even feel anything till I saw the nurse pull the needle out and I bled a little . I assumed the placenta came out along with the boy because I wasn't asked to push again and they didn't do anything but asked if I wanted to keep it. I said no because I think it's gross but apparently different religion have different uses and meaning for it . They asked if my husband wanted to cut the umbilical cord and he did .
They handed me my boy after giving him a quick clean and I cried when I first held him because I was so overwhelmed with emotions . After I calmed down a little , I immediately asked my hubs for my phone to update my mother .
After god knows how long ( they should be settling the cord and cord blood for our storing here ) , the doctor told me she was going to start stitching me up so it was going to get uncomfortable and she recommended me to take in the laughing gas . I complied and they took Raiden away because they had to weigh and then swaddle him since it was cold . My hubs went to take photos of his weight and they placed him in a warmer . I got pretty high on the gas because I remember saying nonsense and laughing but I don't remember what I said hahaha ( I made the medical team laugh so I must have said pretty silly things that I dont remember now but good memory wew ) but I got slightly dizzy after about 5 inhales of the gas so I stopped . I actually don't know how much I was took in because I just kept taking deep breaths and hearing the mask tube vibrate .

The contractions weren't as bad at this point because the intervals were still long and I tried to have some bread because I was getting hungry from trying to tolerate all the pain , but I couldn't swallow so I only had a bite and water .
After awhile, the nurse came back and proceeded to fill in some paperwork, she told me the doctor would come shortly and asked if I wanted epidural , I immediately said no but I'd like the laughing gas instead. She looked at me funny and was like :" are you sure you don't want epidural ?" then nodded and proceeded to set up the mask and everything while another nurse drew my blood for the umbilical cord storing. After setting up the mask , she checked me (it's about 11.09am here) and told me I was already 6cm dilated . At this point of time , the contractions were already quite bad . I was literally grabbing the sides of the bed and pulling them .

I actually don't know how much I was took in because I just kept taking deep breaths and hearing the mask tube vibrate .
After they were done cleaning me up , they gave me a new set of clothes to change as the gown I was wearing is all soiled from the amniotic fluid and blood . HOWEVER , I only changed my top ( they handed Raiden to me straight whn he was out , they just wrapped him in a towel so clearly there would be blood on the shirt ) and was just kind of left to sit on the bed . I think it was because they wanted to let majority of the blood clot flow out first so I sat there , in a pool of blood , ( literally a pool) till a nurse came to bring me to my ward . ) They also let me latch Raiden right after but poor boy wasn't getting anything much and was fussing over the cold so my husband put him back into the warmer while I had my lunch which came right after the doctors left .
We waited for almost 2 hours , about 2.15pm , before they transferred me to the ward . My poor mummy had been waiting for me since 10am and I just told to head back home as she wanted to prepare the longan red date tea for me . She was also very eager to see Raiden so I felt really sorry that she had to wait so long . ( Ironically , the moment she just told me she would go back to prepare the tea for me first , the nurse came to wheel me to my ward 🙃 but I told her to just go and come later , which she did . )
Once we were in the ward , Raiden was taken to the nursery to be cleaned up and clothed so we had some time to ourselves . Husband went to get the paperwork done while I sat on my bed and played my phone , mainly looking at all the messages I was getting and typing the first half of this blog .
The rest of the day was just us cooing over my boy and me trying to catch some sleep , 6 hrs after delivering . Yes I wasn't tired at all and all the nurses and doctors kept saying I look fresh and not like I just delivered .
My mother came about 5pm with the tea and the first thing she did when she came in was to look for the boy and pick him up ☹
Husband and mother had to leave at 8PM because visiting hours were over and I was left with my son . I didn't get much sleep through the night , 4 hours max with wakes here and there because Raiden was hungry . Also whenever the fan was on , he would cry even more so I assumed he was cold since there was already air conditioning . So I spent my night without the fan :") what a waste of money hahaha , but all I wanted was to go home .
I changed his first nappy at about 2ish am and he had his first hiccup at about 3ish am .
Morning came around after what felt like forever and they took my son at about 10 for his vaccination and jaundice check to see if he can go home . Breakfast was served and I finished it really quickly because I was STARVING since 4am and stupid me didn't want to bother the nurses so I endured my hunger . My husband and mother couldn't come till noon and I was like dying to go home . Morning doctor rounds rolled around and they said I could discharge if the baby's jaundice levels aren't too high but there could be a chance I need to stay if it is . Also due to the combination of my husband's and my blood type , he has a chance of having a higher jaundice level . Thankfully when noon rolled around , he was fine and we were all ready to go home .
I changed myself , packed and changed the baby and we went downstairs to my poor mummy who had been waiting for almost 2 hours because they only allowed 1 visitor per patient due to the virus . Raiden was welcomed home at about 3pm on 24 March .
I guess that's all to his really lengthy and detail birth story .
Today , Raiden is 1 month old . Chubbier and healthy . Today , if you asked me if the labour was painful , I guess my answer will be a no and I would do it all over again HAHA . The stitches weren't painful , just uncomfortable and sore . I don't know what else yall wanna know about the process so hit me up in the comments or my ig .
Until I have time again or know what to blog about , I'd be on duty xx
