Hospital of Choice and What I Packed

Being a first time mum and having little to no one I could consult through this pregnancy, I relied a lot on Google, pregnancy apps, other pregnant mummies who share their experience on IG and my own mother for my doubts and enquiries so this is what I came up with along with a simple checklist given by NUH, where I will be welcoming baby R.

First off,
Why NUH?
I was initially with KKH during my first half of my pregnancy but some may know, the service provided there was terrible. In fact, terrible is an understatement. From long waiting hours to insane mistakes made by nurses and doctors, I wouldn't recommend anyone who is looking for a public hospital to deliver at to go there, despite it being a specialised hospital.
I transferred to NUH during my second trimester and so far, the service there has been really good.

Why I don't see a point in delivering in a private hospital is because, despite the fact that you can choose your gynaecologist and better ultrasound photos, you spend +- $300 per visit to see your baby every other month to week, and after you deliver, you get better food and stay in a nicer room, there isn't much to it. Hospital food is still gross and I'm only staying at max, if I have to get an emergency caesarean, 3 days. My mother will also be preparing my confinement meals almost right away so husband will be the one finishing the hospital food hehe . Hopefully, I will be able to deliver naturally also, Plus point is that NUH is very near my home so my son and I can get home faster and not be exposed to the viruses outside.

What's in my hospital bag?
As mentioned above, this is a consolidated list of my own and honestly, every woman have their own packing needs.

1) Important documents
- IC, marriage certificate and hospital folder (if you have any) (For private, you will be given a letter of admission if I'm not wrong as well)

2) Cordlife kits
- We are storing baby R's umbilical cord for health purposes.

3) My clothings
- I've prepared sleeping bras (for comfort and easy nursing), disposable panties (in case of leakage and cleanliness), maternity dress (to go home), compression socks (in case I feel cold and of course, reduce water retention) and my recovery binder (to push my organs back to where they belong asap before I start on post-natal massage) .

4) Toiletries
- shampoo and conditioner (just in case they let me wash my hair y'know), body soap, feminine wash, toothbrush and toothpaste, cleanser, deodorant, and stretch marks creams and oils , sanitary pads and breast pads.

5) Miscellaneous
- I'd be bringing nipple balm as well just in case I get sore, hairbrush, power bank and my supplements that I've been taking for the longest time.

6) Baby R's clothings
- This was packed according to the hospital checklist: baby onesie, mittens, beanie and a blanket/swaddle (I'm bringing a swaddle).
- We will not be bringing a car seat even though it is recommended as we do not own a car yet, there is no use of a car seat except for this purpose; and yes, they will still let you bring your baby back without a car seat.

As mentioned above, this list is packed according to my needs and comfort. There are things like breast pump I did not include as it would only be a baggage if I don't have enough supply. Which usually in the first few days it's tough and I would only be pumping when I can finally oversupply Baby R aside from his regular feeds.

May this be a good guide to help future mummies !
